: The idea

Everyone can put for us a new word with its definetion and some of its usages .


The benefit from this subject is knowing the meaning of the word

without transelate it to Arabic . I think it is the best way to learn

a new vocabulary and it will stay in your mind for a long time .

In my opinion , using the dictionary ' English – English ' can be

good friend for you . using a bilingual dictionary requires a lot

more skill than you might think.


The problem comes from the fact that a word in one language

and its equivalent in another language rarely cover the same

range of meanings. Take, for example, the word school.


The Longman Dictionary of the English Language gives some of

the following meanings :




You should also note that in American English the word school is

commonly used to mean "university" (e.g. He went back to

school when he was 30 years old.) and that we also have the

word school used to mean a large group of fish or other aquatic

animals (e.g. a school of whales).

Is there one single word in Arabic that can include all the above meanings ?

The point is that if you look up a word in an Arabic - English

dictionary, you can never be sure that you can use its translation

directly in the context of your English writing.

What you need to do is look up the word you are thinking of

using in an English Monolingual (English only) Dictionary and

see if it can be used in the context of what your want to say
.
This can be time-consuming but it really is the only safe way to

use a dictionary.


And that is what I am looking to do it here .
